Job Background

The Director of Health Policy and Practice will provide vision and leadership to integrated global health delivery by country teams, including their activities for both human resources for health development and health system strengthening.

Job Duties

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for health and technical programming, as well as operational support to develop and implement innovative solutions that address the delivery gap in countries worldwide;
• Build and lead technical team at HQ and the field;
• Support the development of global, regional and country strategies for increased access to health care through community-based primary health care interventions that are integrated to include mental health services; HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB control activities; child survival interventions, including those that ensure the nutritional integrity of children <5 years; interventions for safe water, improved sanitation and hygiene; activities to prevent and to respond to gender based violence; and interventions to improve the reproductive health and wellbeing of women;
• Lead the strategic planning and organizational development to assure delivery of quality health services and appropriate technical assistance;
• Provide leadership to public health and medical knowledge management that improves service quality and program design, including the facilitation of regional linkages through which good practices can be shared;
• Assure the highest levels of quality to the Emergency Response Team’s health interventions in rapid onset disasters, including the conduct of appropriate assessment tools and the analysis of subsequent data, along with the evidence-based prioritization of health services;
• Lead the development of training interventions that will build the capacity of local providers and assist the return of communities to self-reliance;
• Provide oversight to the development and implementation of standardized program information/evaluation and monitoring plans;
• Identify and assist in securing resources for human resource development activities, nationally and internationally;
• Oversee the development of technical training curricula for both program Medical Directors and their Country Directors;
• Provide key technical direction and guidance to the Program Development staff on health related proposals and initiatives;
• Contribute to the development of communications strategies and products that promote organisational impact to all stakeholders, including institutional and private donors;
• Increase visibility and contributions to technical forums, both internally and externally;
• Lead representation at health related conferences, forums and events;
• Identify and facilitate appropriate partnerships and linkages with other organizations, academic institutions and donors;
• Travel and represent the Organisation as needed;
• Perform other duties as assigned. The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

 
Salary

Circa £60,000 per annum

Job Qualifications

• Medical degree or equivalent level of technical training in the health field;
• Minimum of 7 years experience with international humanitarian programs;
• Previous experience with an NGO or relevant International Organization;
• Excellent communications skills, both oral and written;
• Self- motivated with strong leadership and team-building skills
• Experience in effectively dealing with the needs of international and headquarters staff, as well as donor agencies, government officials, and other INGOs.
• The ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and environments.
• A demonstrated capacity to provide high quality program management.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
