Job Background

Purpose of the Team:
To provide and support a solid, reliable IT infrastructure for the organisation and over 1,000 staff worldwide. This encompasses PCs, Servers, LANS and WANS and the applications that run on them.
These services are critical to the successful operation of our work at every site around the world and must be provided in a cost efficient manner consistent with our primary objective of serving the
poor.
Main purpose of the Job:
This is a technically senior post within the IT Infrastructure & Support team. The prime purpose of the role is to provide technical excellence in projects infrastructure maintenance as well as 2nd line
support for the management of the Networks, Servers and Core Infrastructure.

Components of the Role:
Providing a 2nd line of support in the management and maintenance of the networking environment and working on projects to develop and enhance the core infrastructure.
It includes the following:
, Undertaking technical projects within the team to help manage and maintain our overall technical infrastructure. This will include working on technically complex projects to ensure the high performance, security & scalability of our infrastructure whilst minimizing disruption to our end users.
, Working to find solutions to unresolved incidents identified by the Support Desk
, Working with colleagues overseas to support & improve the IT service in those locations
, Giving technical input to the design & selection of strategic solutions
, Commissioning new equipment for staff, and networking equipment for our sites
, Where required, travel to other UK locations or overseas offices
, To liaise with internal colleagues and external contacts.
, To take responsibility for reviewing own personal development and overall team tasks.
All team members are expected to work at any level (including 1st and 2nd line support) as the need arises.

Job Qualifications

ESSENTIAL
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
GCSE (or equivalent) Maths & English – Grade C
minimum, A levels (or equivalent), especially numerate subjects
PROVEN ABILITIES
Working in a team environment
Good IT troubleshooting skills
Customer facing experience/worked with diversity of
people
Windows 2003 or 2008 Domain management
Good understanding of current IT industry trends and technologies
SKILLS/ABILITIES
Ability to resolve 1st and 2nd line IT issues
Good administrative and organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
The ability to work with users to understand their problems.
Networking technologies including protocols and data flow understanding
Network device configuration including
switches, routers and wireless devices
PC/Server Configuration
Ability to work safely with children in an appropriate and safe manner in
accordance with Child Protection Policy
